Root Refresh vs Dry Shampoo | Dry Shampoo for Curly Hair - BOUCLÈME

Sometimes we don't have time to wash our hair, other days we just want a quick fix so we get on with our day. This is why Root Refresh was invented as the dry shampoo alternative for curly hair.

Root Refresh was invented as the dry shampoo alternative for curly hair. It's water-based, it's hydrating and helps extends wash days. Let's look at the difference between Root Refresh and dry shampoos.

Root Refresh

Nothing substitutes a good wash day, but Root Refresh is a quick solution for those days when you're in a hurry or even after a workout. It's water based rather than powder based, and is best suited to those with dry and/or irritated scalps.

Our nourishing formula contains aloe vera leaf juice for its anti-inflammatory properties, neroli flower water to soothe scalp irritation, lactobacillus ferment (probiotics) to preserve the scalp's natural protective barrier, and lupine seed extract to promote strong healthy hair growth. Root Refresh extends wash days, just like Dry Shampoo, but with added soothing and conditioning benefits.

Remember it's important to regularly cleanse your hair and scalp to remove oils, dirt, product build up and old skin cells. We recommend our Hydrating Hair Cleanser for regular use and to remove oils, our Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo for a monthly reset or our co-wash Curl Cleanser for dry scalps.

Dry Shampoo

Dry Shampoo is waterless, normally either foam or powder based. It's good for absorbing oils and sweat, but eventually creates product build-up on the scalp. Aerosol foaming dry shampoos tend to have alcohol in them, which is very drying on the hair and scalp. If you are prone to dryness naturally, then this is not your ideal partner.

The difficulty with powder based dry shampoos for curly hair, is that it creates a white residue. It also needs to be brushed through the hair so that it distributes evenly, but brushing curly hair causes the curl pattern to break.

As dry shampoos can cause build up and clog the hair follicles, a clarifying shampoo such as our Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo is required regularly to remove this build up. However if somebody with a dry scalp clarifies too often, this will lead to even dryer hair, more frizz and potentially breakage.
